my mentor

my mother often makes dried daikon. she still does.
she cut them thinly, dehydrated in breezy sunny
location for many days and conserve for a long time.
she often send us those daikon and homemade
pickles and etc...whatever she can find.
i noticed that every time when i received those,
they are always wrapped in pink paper.

ever since when we were little, she was our
mentor who showed us how to garnish each
dish with fresh green from the garden.  she
would run to the backyard garden, find
small green, put them on the side of the plate
or on top of homemade food she had prepared.
having fresh green on each dish, it always made
simple, positive effect.  food appearance changed
dramatically and tickled our appetite.

today, i soaked them in water for a while.  will be
cooked and enjoy having them for dinner and
lunch tomorrow.

came home with exhustion from walking all day,
hot tea to relax for a while in late afternoon
next thing i noticed myself,
two pot holders in my hands completed.
feels so natural, thick, durable, charming,
always love the texture of jute

this week has been freezing cold.  no snow though.
pain and all the discomfort i had lately,
all now subsided after limiting my walk.
while in pain, it crossed my mind
what if i ever become unable to walk
or unable to use my extremities freely
it is unthinkable
i better take care of myself now

knitted simple scarf for myself while ago
and enjoying it daily.  makes me appreciate
for health and peace of mind

after coming home from Dr. office with all
good test result, i sit by the stove with relief
enjoying this magazine and sunshine coming
through the window

little tree

when i first started living here about 2.5yrs ago,
i had no plants or flower, nothing at all.
totally without any green around me.
i was so longing for green life and found this 5cm tall
tree sprout in the middle of bamboo bush.
i carefullly picked it, replaced in a tiny plastic pot,
water regulally.  for the last two years, there was no
excitement.  no change in leaf color or no fruits growng
as i was looking for some surprise.
so boreing tree, i thought untill recently.
but now the top of the leaf color started to change
and gets more of my attention and it has grown
over 50cm tall by now.

once i thought "boring tree"
now i am getting attached to it

all my plants are hanging in there

homemade pasta

i like his simple homemade pasta.  in order to try,
i walked the store to got some eggs and of course
other junk food in my tote and headed home.
outside is so inviting warm blue sky day here.

although i added bacon and mashroom,
seasoned only with pepper, salt, and thyme
as he recommended. you can get the recipe
from here a normandy kitchen.
it was expectedly delicious meal and was my first
attempt making own pasta.  thanks ivan.

easy on stomach

lately, my stomach is not doing well.
i only eat whenever my stomach is ready
and simple food with less spice.   but taking
good food away from daily life is not fun.
so i try to make something more appealing
and small amount of tasty meal.

did you look up today?

after all the festivity has gone
the place seems somewhat lonely
so quiet
no sound at all
but looking at this with optimism
seems content and taking a deep breath with
satisfied relief

spend few minutes here after
work.  before i left, i noticed this
amazing leaf scattered above me.
oh, how nice that i was sitting under this.
what's above you today?

bird story

it had been a mystery that the hanging basket
liner kept loosing it's coco liner and getting thinner
and thinner and left being messy.  someone
was stealing my liner litttttle bit at a time!
my first instinct was the wind.
never imagine someone would take part of
liner away ...little bit at a time.
but one day, i spotted a tiny bird pecking on it and
flew away, far away toward the mountain so proudly
with some liner in her mouth.
nmm, she must be making her own nest.
i should have a big heart and forgive her.  but
stealing is not good.  since then, i put a jute fabric
around the liner but it seems like she keeps
coming back.....
yet, there is no apology or asking.

during the holidays, we, human had too much food.
there were too many oranges at work.  but
one left and now it became too dry to eat.
i kept it, took this home and
left on the tree.  this attract
lovely moss green birds.

lots of white eyes brought the whole family.
enjoy the juicy fruits.
